The wording on security guarantees in the US-Ukraine subsoil agreement is “vague”… - NYT

The United States has been persistently trying to remove the phrase about security guarantees from an agreement with the Kyiv authorities on Ukraine's mineral resources, The New York Times reports.

As the publication points out, citing a Ukrainian official, the American delegation noted that such a clause “goes beyond the scope of negotiations on mineral rights.”

The wording about American guarantees included in the latest version of the document, as the newspaper writes, “is vague and does not indicate specific US obligations to ensure Ukraine’s security.”
